Sorry about the terrible photos however, I just had to snap a few shots of these pretty chairs I recently had recovered for one of my clients. They were her mother's chairs which we have worked into her lounge room scheme. We covered them in a black and white ticking and had box pleated skirts put around the base of them. I wanted to keep the timber frame in it's original condition so as to show the age of the chairs.

how lovely that you left the patina on the arms of these gorgeous family heirlooms. such a sweet gesture that retains the integrity of the piece. how i regret not fixing my great aunt's chair. such things are precious beyond their price tag.
Anna, love the ticking juxtaposed with that box pleat which is a bit of an Annabel Spiro signature look, nes pas?

Always a fan of b/w ticking, but over the moon that you did not refinish the wood - it makes them wonderful.
* Anna, I so appreciate it when the original wear & tear on the wood IS left "as found"... refinishing would take away ALLLL of sentimental personality of the pieces, making each chair "JUST another chair"!!!

black and white ticking is so gorgeous! anna, i know this may seem a boring request, but is there a chance that you can do a post on finding a decent upholsterer?! really. i have at least four chairs (including a featherstone) that need a little sprucing and wouldn't have the first clue about how to find someone decent to restore them....i'm sure i'm not alone in this. x

I have a very similar chair which I think was my grandmothers, my mother was going to through it out and I said NO! It is in desperate need of new upholstery though and has beautiful arms like that chair. You've inspired me to finally get my chair restored!
Lovely chairs. I'm doing an upholstery night course at the moment and covering a similar chair - hope mine looks as lovely as yours! I was going to sand and re-stain the arms, but I like how your ones are left original - I think I'll go the same way.

Oh my God...my mother's chairs are now famous!! What a lovely surprise to find them on your blog Anna.I'm so thrilled with them, especially when I remember the sad sorry state they were in. They look gorgeous with those embroidery cushions we did up....soft pinks and greens. Yummy. I just adore my beautiful furnishings...big thank you Anna.
