Kitchen Furniture

In a kitchen I am very fond of using old pieces of furniture instead of cabinetry, where I can. I find it gives a kitchen a more lived-in, individual look.

In my own kitchen at home I have used a chest of drawers which houses my napery collection and also an old French Armoire which we use as our pantry.

When I stumbled across this image {top} I instantly fell in love with the old table which they used in the centre of the kitchen. I love the look of the aged marble with its dints and scratches and chips.

Talking of dints and scratches and chips...I often have clients who are worried about marble getting damaged. I always say to them that in actual fact, marble looks better with age!

That top kitchen is one of my favorites! It is an Elizabeth Martin design but I'm not sure where it was featured.

Love the chest of drawers. It's so wonderful to bring life into the kitchen, by older pieces. The first photo marriages new and lived in pieces perfectly! Great post!

yes, I love this! i'm still jealous of my mom's kitchen island- an antique desk that was converted with a granite top and turned wood legs that extend it's counterspace.

kitchen antiques soften the otherwise industrial look of a kitchen's expance...lovely inspiration photos!

I saw this image in Elle Decor's article on the home of Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos. However it was a bit confusing because there were two different kitchen images in the magazine article, this one and one tagged as being from their previous home. Online they have the previous homes kitchen featured and this kitchen isn't shown. As I said, a bit confusing.

I totally agree with the patina theory. I just got this amazing industrial stainless steel table, and I love the fact that the finish is far from perfect. I certainly wouldn't want to feel like I was living in a museum... great post!

I would have to agree with you as far as the marble table is concerned because when I went to change mine my interior designer said...the old ones cost more than the new ones and there was a demand for the old and patchy ones...so I am still with it and seeing this picture I am glad I did not part with it.
