First Dahlias Flowering

Earlier in the year I was so impressed by the pretty Dahlias one of my clients had flowering in her garden, I decided to plant some in our garden for this Summer.  About 4 1/2 weeks ago we planted 60 Dahlia Bulbs and this week I cut my very first bunch.  My Mum and my Grandmother and Aunty came over yesterday afternoon and each of them picked their own large bunch to take home.  It really is such a joy to be able to give flowers from my garden to my family and friends.  I can't wait for the Asters and Zinnias to flower in the week ahead...

oh they are just divine! not only are they cheaper when they come from your own garden but so much more satisfying. I've planted roses & hydrangeas this spring and can't wait to be able to give them to friends in the years ahead.

I wonder if dahlias can cope with being in a city apartment garden... the colour of these are so amazing, very envious!

Anna, I'm such a warm weather person, but alas, I live in the Western Hemisphere and won't see it for the next 6 months. I'll have to visit here while I wait for warmth and all the greenery and pretty flowers to return.

I love flowers so much as well- most weeks I put a "blooms" post on my blog of the arrangements I make for my apartment.

They are so very luscious and beautiful Anna, and I can't believe how quickly they've grown. I've also planted lots this season but they are still a long way from the first bloom. Must be that lovely weather in Queensland as opposed to significantly less tropical Wellington! I'll just have to live vicariously through yours for a little while yet.
