Dorm Room

As much as I do love the look of a gorgeous bunk room, I have found that bunk beds really are such a pain to make. Lately I have been preferring the look of a large dorm room with rows of single beds like the picture above. I love the lidded basket placed at the end of each bed - perfect for storing each person's clothes in. I personally would be much happier making these beds instead of numerous bunk beds.

Anna, I have to agree. We have bunks at the beach house and I break my nails making them. The dorm room reminds me of my childhood holidays at our friends' rambling old beach house at Port Stephens where all the kids slept together in single beds - great fun!

Hi Anna
This photo brought back happy memories Growing up in a family of 4 girls my parents built us a dorm room it was fun
Kind regards
Karen
PS I love your idea of letting time dictate the decor in your next home and leaving the white behind sounds like a good idea

And it's hard to climb into bed with your little ones when they are in bunks. Dorm style makes it simple to read a book together or just have a chat before they are off to sleep. Those are my favorite moments.

Such a gorgeous image! Very cosy - reminds me of the kind of sleeping arrangements I'd imagine the Disney seven dwarfs to have! x

I am so hearing you sister! As the mother of two boys and the maker of 8 bunk beds on holidays, it really is not the way to go.... There is the making when you get there, the daily re-making, and of course for us the de-sanding.

This is a lovely idea and the children only go in there to sleep on holidays anyway!

I agree! the room looks beautiful a bit 'the seven dwarves' perhaps! I did teach everybody very early how to make their own beds!

personally I can't stand bunk beds, I am sure that are very unsafe, just ask hospitals! I would never let my kids sleep in one either, I think if you are not used to them, you will def do yourself an injury! Dorm beds, now thats a fabulous idea!!! I've seen some genuinely gorgeous ones lately... like yours!

Perfect for a group of girls. Pretty striped duvet there and the scalloped detail on the the lining of the baskets is a nice touch.

I couldn't agree more. This would be my perfect plan to house grandkids in a vacation cottage. Then cousins could really bond planning all kinds of summer mischief! Oh to dream...

I love the basket idea at the end of the beds!! We just moved and instead of bunk beds I thought single beds would be more personalized for my three children. Such a sweet photo!

i'm starting to think the same thing.

in the next year I'm going to need to move my three boys from toddler beds to twin beds and was considering two sets of bunks - but they seem to always look messy in real life, not to mention the monkey-ing around that would occur.

thanks for the photo. i'd like the idea of some sort of trunk at the end of each bed for their own treasures.

I'm so glad to see this because I just did the same thing at our summer home for the same reason. The bunk beds were such a pain.

I agree with you 100%! Wouldn't you love to have a cabin where all the kids in the family would sleep in that room? How many great memories would come from just this room alone!!

This something I have always planed for when I will have kids. :)
And you are on my happy list.

Dorm room style is super cute but nothing tops bunk style bedding in a ski lodge, just so snug and warm to sleep that way!

I moved form Brazil to Canada, 14 years ago, and now moving to NZ!
What a change, hum? But she mentioned you have pictures from NZ and they are amazing. Do you mind to let me know in wich post?
by the way, I do prefer drom rooms, and this picture reminds me so much my bedrrom when I was a girl, sharing with 2 other sisters.
Lovely picture!
Have a lovely Easter and I'll have you on my blog list. It's just beautiful your blog.

That is definitely the nicest dorm room I've seen. My bed was not a bunk, thankfully, but it was not that cute!

I would love a summer house with an attic that looks just like this! My son has bunk beds and they are cute and fun for kids... but you are right, IMPOSSIBLE to make (and keep made!)!

Hi Anna! I have bunks in my son's room and they look fantastic! But man....that top bunk is tough to make. If only we had big rooms to have all those beds in row. So pretty and love those baskets.

I'm picturing a family lake house with a dorm room for the kids. I would want it to look just like this! What fun all the kids would have telling stories after the lights go out!
The baskets are fab!

I love this look - sadly my house is too small to accommodate anything other than bunks for my boys but this is fantastic.
