One of the things I love so much about using white as a background on surfaces like walls, floors, cabinetry and even sofas, armchairs and bedding is that you can layer lots of colour on top or strip it back to it's bare self and simplify. It's just so flexible. With my thoughts turning to planning our Summer look here at Black & Spiro I am craving a bit of clarity this week so maybe that's why I am posting these tonal white-on-white photos to strip back the colour, clear my head and start again.

I couldn't agree more. White spaces, like art galleries, distill each element to its essence. What a breath of fresh air!
I needed this. I think there is nothing better than clearing a space to find clarity or a fresh start. If I were to get married again, I would wear that white shirt dress. Reminds me of the freshness of black and white photography.

I love these photos. Where they may be light on color, they do not lack for texture! The first photo seems so comfortable, that I would love to curl up on the sofa and read some poetry by the window.

I know what you mean about using white. I live in a NYC apartment and want to maximize space. So I always paint my walls a linen white, which has a warm yellow undertone. It also lets me bring brights and colors into my apartment. Everything still looks clean and cozy.
I agree. I love anything white. Dishes, bedding,walls, my white slipcovered sofa,pottery. Love it. I even have a white car!

I absolutely agree that white brings clarity. I know this as a concept, but find it interesting how peaceful it is to actually look at the white on white images...
I love white in bedrooms in particular... it seems to create a foundation for our days and our dreams.
