A Family Tradition
I believe in Tradition. I believe in following the thoughts and actions passed down to me from the older generations in my family. I live my life based on the things my family has taught me and I hope my boys will inherit this same way of life.
Over the holidays I've had so much spare time to think about what is most important in my life and every time it comes back to my family and the way we live and have lived since I was a little girl.
So, this year I am going to talk more about tradition here on ABT. I am going to post a series called A Family Tradition. I hope it inspires you to think about the traditions and beliefs your family has instilled in you and maybe, if those traditions have been forgotten about, you might be encouraged to re-instate them. Or maybe you might be inspired to establish some new tradtions for your family to embrace.

I'm sure I will adore your
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Beautiful Traditions! ;-)
I briefly wrote about tradions around Christmas on my own blog and how I felt a bit adrift without really having any. I am very excited about you writing this series and will be keeping a close eye!
ReplyDeleteI love this. My own daughter brought out the urge for tradition in me as well. What a fun thing to post about.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea. I'm looking forward to the "Traditions" posts. Such a good topic. Love the blue and white, too. - Jeanne
ReplyDeleteI'm very much looking forward to following the series. Family tradition is something I strive to establish in our home. We all cherish tradition, and the four children have caught on very quickly and love them as we do.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I did a post on traditions that we uphold in our own family every year at Christmas. I think traditions play a really important role throughout the year. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI agree Anna. Heritage is so important, and the things I love the most are based on this too. I look forward to your new series!
ReplyDeleteYes! I'm listening! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have two small children and I try to do the same with them... I try to let them know who I truly am and where I am from... and I try to keep our traditions alive. I think it's a beautiful thing.
Good job... really nice idea!

For me, traditions add a further thread to the ties which make up a family. For our family, many traditions revolve around food. Making a special jelly that my Nan made each Christmas, using my Mum's buttermilk cake recipe and now creating traditions for my own family such as gingerbread biscuits in December.
ReplyDeletei was raised with amazing family values and traditions... and i love that you feel the same... i will love hearing more about yours ...
ReplyDeletewishing you much peace, happiness and blessings in the new year... xx
Blue and white China is so lovley!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a lovely idea; looking forward to reading more of your new and old traditions as the year progresses.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea! I like that you are making what is "assumed" explicit. I love that you can articulate those things and have such positive relationships with your parents and memories of those things.
ReplyDeleteI grew up with my parents having a house at the beach and surfing, fishing, mud crabs, pineapple & avocados feature strongly in my memories.
Looking forward to more!
Wendy

I love this idea! Tradition is a beautiful thing and it certainly keeps the ebb and flow in something that is meant to be cherished like family and friends, etc.....you remind me that with the new year upon us its a great time to take the time to make a point to keep up the small traditions that are important to me and worth keeping alive. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteA lovely idea! I would like to focus on this more myself :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your traditions!

Son # 4 is our keeper of family traditions Anna. Strangely, he's been our rebel child, nothing too out there, but a 'challenge' never the less. So I find it gorgeous that he's the one who will carry our traditions down the line. And he certains lets all his brothers know what's expected of them in this regard!!

Anna,
ReplyDeleteI am really excited about this series! I just posted (http://www.everythingin3s.com/2011/01/01/a-new-year-a-new-decade/) about a friend's tradition with her husband (something they do every New Year's Eve for their children) and she was trying to decide at what point they'd pass their letters along to their girls. Traditions are so special and so meaningful! Thank you for sharing with us!
