My Life Right Now

My life has been pretty hectic with the arrival of little Max. The life I knew which was that of a working woman with one child, a husband and 2 dogs has changed. I used to purchase my favourite magazines and be able to sit down on the sofa and read them that night. I used to have time to do my own thing. But not these days.

I have had the new Country Style magazine sitting on my bedside table now for a few days and I haven't even had the chance to open it.

I actually glanced at my bedside table tonight and thought I would take a photo of it to show you.

It consists of the Country Style magazine which I am dying to open. It also consists of that pink fabric which, even though I had ordered the yellow colourway on Friday, I changed it today to the pink. I don't usually change my mind once I've made my mind up - what is happening to me? It also consists of a book I purchased on Amazon which I think is very applicable to my life right now - Just Let Me Lie Down Necessary Terms for the Half-Insane Working Mom by Kristin van Ogtrop. I also love the colour of it's cover. Today Harry made me the origami swans which you can see sitting there. I love them. Brad and Harry brought me in a bowl of Harry's favourite treat - ice-cream with coke bottle lollies on top just now to try to cheer me up. It worked.

I'm sure tomorrow will be better. Tomorrow our container full to the brim of Stuart Membery furniture will be arriving on our doorstep. Tomorrow is going to be a very exciting day.

xx
Anna

  4. What a fun bedside table! I do that with my favourite shelter mags sometimes...they sit there tempting me, but I refuse to read them until I have the time to give them my full attention!

  6. The first time you open a magazine (and actually sit and read it) after a baby is a big day, worthy of celebration. Don't push too hard - you'll get there when the time is right. Good luck with it all.

  13. Hang in there and try to enjoy your little Friends as much as you can. That is our true calling as mothers, to love and nurture our little friends, to stay a true friend and lover to our husbands and to try to find at least five minutes of solitude and meditation each day!

  16. I always enjoy seeing your own home. New baby transition is a particularly hard one and while I often am itching to hold a new born I am incredibly grateful for consistent sleep. The fact that ice cream could make it better shows you are far better natured than I ever was. The furniture arrival should put a spring in your step. And mine if we get to see it.

  18. This takes me back but trust me, it does get easier. Change is challenging.
I'm glad you went with the pink. The heart knows what the heart wants. Sometimes we just can't be practical. That would mean settling. Can't wait to see what you do with this.

  20. Anna - When my son was born I actually found myself standing in grocery lines letting other people go ahead of me just so I could look through a magazine uninterrupted. The fact that you do such amazing work and am a mom is an amazing feat. Be proud of yourself and know that the magazines will always be there!

  22. I remember after my 3rd son arrived thinking "well that's it - I am never going to read another book, magazine or paper again - my brain will turn to mush and holding an intelligent adult conversation will be impossible!" well, my brain is mush however I sneaky read all the time & still manage to work, talk, shop, blog, socialise and be a reasonably decent parent whilst masqurading as a normal human being - IT DOES GET BETTER.

  23. Enjoy the benefits of that beautiful extended family of yours. Ask for help and time out. We purchased extended family in the form of a nanny 2 days a week just so I wouldn't slash my wrists. Oh I so needed help and had no-one. Our darling nanny is still part of our life. She makes my boys a birthday cake every year and still holidays with us! Oh to have an extended family though.

What is it with the origami? My boys are obsessed with it too at present. Did they do it at school last term? That's all my boys are doing apres ski. I'm tripping over it everywhere! A-M xx

  26. Anna - I completely emphasise with you! With Isabelle, at 8 wks old & my first baby and 2 dogs - you're 1 child up on me! I have just started getting back into some design projects...and I have a pile of my interior mags looking at me - like you! I was the one who devoured the mag as soon as I got it in the post [my 7 or so subscriptions] - now it's marked with post-its so I can prioritise my reading time whilst Isabelle has a sleep! Too funny - thanks for the heads up on the book you're reading will check it out. The one I found fabulous was 'The Second Nine Months: One Woman Tells the Real Truth About Becoming a Mom' by Vicki Glembocki - very funny! Look forward to seeing your home & projects come alive...

  27. Having a new baby is really hard. I can't imagine running my own business on top of it. Just keep thinking that it will get easier in just a few months.(I felt like every 3 months, it got easier.)

  28. Yes it does get better, and what is lovely is how it will soon seem so much easier that with one (really!) as your boys start to play and amuse each other and become great friends. I am glad you still find time for such beauty as your bedside table in your life and what's more to share it with all of us. Thank you!

  29. Anna, I'm loving the bowl the ice-cream is in!! And your son has great taste, those coke bottles are the best! It is hard balancing two but I'm sure you'll adjust in time. I know so well that feeling of an unopened Country Style (I subscribe too) but you know what, you have to be in the right zone for it as it's your special time. Timing is everything (it's just incredibly limited). Pxxx

  30. P.S. Glad you changed your fabric order to the pink! Can't wait to see what you do with it. Px

  31. What a lovely mixture of enticing things! I think having such a pretty and organised bedside table is probably proof that you're triumphing over the chaos, too. Happy reading!

  32. I can totally relate. I miss my magazine time!! (I have a 4 month old son and we're moving next week. Enough said:)

  34. My mother will still say, no better cure than that of a nap or a bowl of ice cream. Well, now that is not exactly what she said, but she still tells me that " sleep or food " is the best remedy.
I would say a container like that would require both to un-pack!
Loved that book and those origami swans are stunning.
Please tell Harry he is the man.
