Front Gates

I was recently looking for some inspiration for some big front gates for an old house with a long driveway and I came across these 2 images which I just loved. It's so rare to see beautiful front gates here in Australia. I don't think people here put enough emphasis on designing or finding the right front gate for their home and instead often they opt for nothing at all. I would love to have a big old house with a long driveway with big old front gates - nothing like the thought of being closed away in your own private sanctuary behind a pair of beautiful front gates!

  3. They look like gates for English stately homes. I love Victorian and Georgian style houses, we adore gates over here :)

  4. Wouldn't that be wonderful to have a property with enough frontage to be able to have a grand gate!!!

  6. Its funny, here in the states gates usually give off a cold vibe. But in these photos gates have more of an ethereal tone. I really like the second photo as it reminds me of the movie House of Spirits.

  7. Thanks all!! Calie - I have to agree with you that in some respects big bold old front gates can give a cold vibe - I hadn't really thought of them that way but I still love them!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!

  8. Anna, the house MUST have a name! I've always wanted to have a house that came with a name. My sister in law lives on a ranch and they named it and designed a brand for it (this IS Texas!). The brand sits over their front gates. They recently redesigned their pool and had the brand set in mosiac tile at the bottom of it.
