City Cottage

I thought I would share a few pictures of a very cute and tiny inner city cottage I recently worked on for a gorgeous young couple who are expecting their first baby in a few months time.  We decided to leave the old kitchen in place instead of ripping it out.  We painted it a fresh white and added the black and white checkerboard floor as there was a chipboard floor in that section.  We also added a big cabinet to the the left of the kitchen which now houses food and other kitchen items as the little kitchen was just a bit too small.  We made black and white ticking roman blinds which we installed on all the windows in the cottage and added pretty cushions and other quirky items to create a fun, happy space.  Oh and this cottage just had to have a red door so we painted the back door bright glossy red!

  1. Bits of bold colour really work in small spaces don't they, you have to brave though don't you! Great job :)

  6. Wow, I really love those cupboards! I really need some like that around a window in our study. It's hard to make out from the photo but is there a cupboard above the window and a shelf below? Beautiful work as usual Anna.

  10. Love it. the cabinet is perfection! I'm having an inspection done on a single fronted cottage tomorrow morning (because buying another house six sleeps before I leave the country for six months is not stressful at al...) - these cabinets would be ideal for my potential new home! Hope you are well dear Anna, sorry I won't be able to catch up when the girls are up there next week. I'll keep in touch! xx

  17. lovely Anna,
Wonderful to see a talented designer who could propose ripping the kitchen out and starting over. But you are right that would be to easy.
Leave it pretty much as it is and give it a fresh new look without breaking the bank.
I am sure this young couple will have many years and lots of wonderful memories in this beautiful space. It all just looks so relaxing and welcoming.
Sometimes restraint is the best answer.
    What a great room.
    Warm wishes

  24. We leased a house in Melbourne in 1973 and one of the things in it I adored was curtains and slipcovers made out of mattress ticking. Quite revolutionary at the time and I took the idea back to the states with me and am still covering things in ticking. Thanks for the memory!

  42. Hello,
I visited your blog today. It was so pretty and colorful. The black and white flooring is nice with the red accent door. I just did a post today on red, black, and white. The little rose chair in the office is so charming, and the rainbow cake looks so yummy I could have a piece now. Me and my daughters just started a new blog, and we would love it if you could visit us and follow. I would really enjoy coming back to visit with you and seeing all your creative, wonderful ideas. Hope to hear from you, and have a sweet day.
